In The Market
In an everyday grocery store we find a glum stock-boy named Harry. He's on the outs with life, and tells Al The Butcher about his problems finding a nice girl.
In the PA system we hear Fats Waller's When You And I Were Young Maggie (1939) as it begins to play. Harry hums along as he walks through the aisles. He turns the corner and stumbles upon beautiful girl - Maggie.
They lock eyes. Harry can't look away and is mystified. She places her basket on the floor.
Maggie and Harry begin to dance. They know all the steps and dance them in synchronicity. It's like a dream. Every little step of footwork is in synch with Fats Waller's little piano trills and accents. They float, weave, and skip down the aisles.
The song ends, and Harry returns to the bleak reality of everyday life, but the past minutes of his life have given him perspective.
